Contracted construction crews with the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) continue to install sewer lines in the cities of Maplewood and Richmond Heights. Beginning at 9:00AM on Monday, May 9, contractor crews will reduce lanes on Manchester Road near the intersection of Bellevue Avenue.
The turn lanes from Manchester Road to Bellevue Avenue will be removed and the traffic will be diverted to the north or south side of the street to complete construction on a sewer line. Some parking will be impacted on Manchester Road during this work. Signs will be placed in the area guiding drivers to alternate routes. The work at the intersection of Manchester Road and Bellevue Avenue is expected to be completed within a month.
The contractor crews will continue to proceed north on Bellevue and close lanes on Bellevue during the hours of 9:00AM-3:00PM Monday-through-Friday. The lane restrictions will be done in 100 foot increments, “rolling” down Bellevue as the project proceeds. In addition to signs being placed in the area guiding drivers to alternate routes, a flag person will be directing traffic in the area. These rolling lane restrictions are expected to last through the spring of 2017. Residents in the affected area have been notified of the upcoming closures. Yale Avenue has been identified as an alternate route for traffic during the lane restrictions on Bellevue Avenue.
The construction is a part of MSD Project Clear, MSD’s initiative to improve water quality and alleviate many wastewater concerns in the St. Louis region. The installation of this new, larger sewer line is part of the ongoing effort to alleviate sewer overflows and basement backups throughout MSD’s service area. This particular project will benefit over two-thousand properties in the cities of St. Louis, Maplewood, and Richmond Heights.
