The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District is investigating a wastewater overflow in West St. Louis County. It was discovered Tuesday morning, after an employee at an office park near I-64 and Highway 141 reported murky water in a manmade pond.
MSD crews responded, identified the affected section of pipe, and immediately started working to clear any blockage. The overflow ceased Tuesday afternoon when a blockage was a cleared, but crews will continue to work through the night to ensure there are no additional blockages or issues with the line. The overflow was largely contained to a small creek and storm sewer that feed into a nearby pond. The area will be cleaned and disinfected once the investigation and any necessary repairs are complete.
Warning signs have been posted in the area, advising the public of the overflow. While there is no immediate threat to public health or safety, everyone is asked to avoid any creeks, ponds or detention basins in the immediate vicinity until everything is cleaned up. Anyone who comes in contact with wastewater should immediately and thoroughly wash with soap and water.
MSD has reported the break to The Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
