Crews with the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) are cleaning up a sewer main spill in Ladue, Missouri.
On the afternoon of Thursday, December 7th, MSD crews were called to investigate a report of sewage overflowing from a manhole in the area near Warson Lane and Warson Road in Ladue, Missouri. Upon arrival MSD crews discovered sewage discharging from three different manholes into Pebble Creek, which is a tributary of Deer Creek. The crews checked the sewer main and discovered that the main was blocked with debris. The crews cleared the blockage and restored sewer flow. After clearing the blockage, crews then built a temporary dam in Pebble Creek and set up pumps to contain the sewage.
Clean up efforts are ongoing and will continue through the weekend. Affected areas of the creek are near Warson Lane, Forcee Lane, and the intersection of Conway Road and Conway Woods Lane. A portion of the affected cleanup area is also on the property of Ladue Horton-Watkins High School. MSD has notified Ladue School District officials of the incident.
There is no immediate threat to public health or safety from this sewage spill. MSD has placed warning signs in the area, including Ladue Horton-Watkins High School, advising the public of the sewage spill. The public is asked to heed the signs and avoid the affected areas. If a member of the public should come in contact with the water in the creek or other affected areas, they should immediately and thoroughly wash with soap and water.
The sewer spill was reported to MSD by a member of the public. Sewer service to customers in this area has not and will not be affected.
The sewer main blockage and associated overflow have been reported to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, as required by law.
