With the anticipation of rain in the St. Louis region, crews from the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) are coordinating with the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County to clean inlets in known problem areas that are low-lying. This is a part of routine maintenance conducted by MSD crews.
We do not expect the conditions to be out of the ordinary, but we have added additional maintenance in conjunction with our everyday efforts.
With more than 160,000 inlets in St. Louis City and St. Louis County, MSD cannot possibly clear snow from EVERY inlet in a timely manner. We are asking the public to PLEASE remove snow from inlets near their property, if at all possible. This will allow MSD crews to focus on the low-lying areas where we know drainage accumulates during rainstorms and where melting heavy snowfall may worsen the situation
If you notice ponding or flooding on streets due to a blocked inlet during rainfall, and are physically unable to remove the snow yourself, please contact MSD’s 24-hour customer service number at (314) 768-6260 or email us at customersvc@stlmsd.com. While MSD cannot address ponding or flooding issues unrelated to our sewer system, calls for flooded streets due to blocked inlets will be responded to as quickly as possible and on a priority basis.
