Floods are the most common and most costly type of natural disasters. According to the National Flood Insurance Program, the average flood claim for homeowners and renters exceeds $35,000 in damages. The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) has launched a public awareness initiative – “Know Your Zone” – to encourage residents to find out what flood zone you live in and to do your research about flood insurance.
