MSD is finalizing preparations for the arrival of Hurricane Isaac in the St. Louis area. MSD field crews and customer service personnel will be at full staff this weekend, and there will be additional staff on stand-by if needed. MSD has added extra phone lines in its customer care center, quadrupling the number of phone lines available for customer calls. To report sewer issues such as building backups, blocked inlets, or surcharged sewers, call MSD’s 24-hour customer care at (314) 768-6260. MSD crews spent this week cleaning sewer inlets and focusing on cleaning problematic areas prone to flooding, coordinating efforts with local municipalities. In addition, MSD has also secured backup generators, topped off on-hand fuel supplies, and installed temporary pump stations at key junctures in the sanitary sewer system to help prevent building backups. If you find yourself trapped by water or in a situation that you cannot easily escape, contact 911. MSD is not equipped or trained to conduct rescue operations or emergency response. 911 will connect you with the first responders (police, fire, etc.) that can best and immediately help you.
