MSD Project Clear (MSDPC) crews are cleaning up after a wastewater overflow in Ballwin. It was discovered late Friday morning in a wooded area in the Wild Wood neighborhood off Baxter Road. A wastewater pipe that runs through the woods broke, allowing wastewater to spill out into a creek bed.
Responding MSD Project Clear crews were able to quickly stop the flow and repair the broken pipe within a few hours. Efforts are now focused on cleaning and disinfecting the affected area. That process is expected to continue into the weekend.
Warning signs have been posted in the area, advising the public of the overflow. While there is no immediate threat to public health or safety, everyone is asked to avoid the immediate vicinity until everything is cleaned up and disinfected, and the warning signs have been removed. Anyone who comes in contact with wastewater should immediately and thoroughly wash with soap and water.
MSD has reported the break to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Department of Conservation.
