MSD Project Clear invites its community partners to help spread the word:
Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) belong in the trash, not down the drain.
Just as fats, oils, and grease (FOG) clog our arteries, they also clog pipes both inside your home and outside in our sewer system. The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) estimates that about 15 percent of blockages in its public sewer system are caused by FOG.
These free tools and resources are designed to empower our partners to help educate our community about how to protect their homes and our local water environment.
The following graphics, articles, videos, and other tools are available to use, paraphrase, or repurpose to share with your audiences.

CCTV Video (FOGged Pipe)
This is footage from inside a sewer pipe showing about 15 seconds of clean pipe and 45 seconds of pipe that has been clogged by Fats, Oils and Grease. This is a great visual to go along with the web copy below or posting on social media with a brief description of how FOG clogs pipes.

- is teaming up with @MSDProjectClear to encourage you to protect your pipes this holiday season by properly disposing of fats, oils, and grease (FOG). FOG from butter, gravy, oil, and sauces can look like harmless liquids, but when it is poured down the drain, it becomes thick and sticky, clogging pipes and causing sewer backups in your home. Instead of pouring it down your drain, dispose of FOG by COOLING IT, CANNING IT, and TRASHING IT.

Did you know that @MSDProjectClear sees an increase in problems caused by FOG during the holiday season? Protect your pipes by throwing fats, oils, and grease in the trash, not down the drain.

Clean Pipe
This shows what a pipe without FOG looks like. This would pair well with the “Blocked Pipe” image to show the difference.
FOG Lids
“FOG lids” are used to cover cans while fats, oils, and grease cool before going in the trash. These are available at MSD’s administrative office and most municipalities.
