MSD Project Clear invites its community partners to help spread the word:

Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) belong in the trash, not down the drain.

Proper disposal of fats, oils and grease (FOG) can help prevent clogged pipes inside your home and in our region’s wastewater system. MSD Project Clear estimates that about 15 percent of blockages in its public sewer system are caused by FOG.

To help raise awareness, we’ve created free tools and resources designed to support our partners in educating the community on how to better protect their homes and our local waterways.

We encourage stakeholders to use or share the following graphics, articles, videos and other materials with their audiences.

  • We are teaming up with @MSDProjectClear to encourage you to protect your pipes by properly disposing of fats, oils, and grease (FOG). Common items like butter, cooking oil, and sauces look like harmless liquids but will solidify once poured down the drain, clogging pipes and causing sewer backups. Instead of pouring it down your drain, dispose of FOG by COOLING IT, CANNING IT, and TRASHING IT.
  • Fats, oils, and grease (FOG) can clog pipes in your home and the public sewers, causing basement backups and costly repairs. During the holidays, @MSDProjectClear sees a 15% increase in problems caused by FOG. Protect your pipes by putting FOG in the trash, not down the drain.

FOG Lid

“FOG lids” are used to cover cans while fats, oils, and grease cool before going in the trash. These are available at MSD Project Clear and most municipalities.
