Proprietary BMPs

A proprietary BMP is a pre-fabricated stormwater treatment structure utilizing settling, filtration, absorptive/adsorptive materials, vortex separation, vegetative components, and/or other appropriate technology to remove pollutants from storm runoff. Proprietary BMPs are intended to capture sediments, metals, hydrocarbons, floatables, and/or other pollutants in stormwater runoff before being conveyed to a storm sewer system, or waterbody..

A proprietary BMP is generally adequate for small drainage areas that contain a predominance of impervious cover that is likely to contribute high hydrocarbon and sediment loadings. For larger sites, multiple BMPs may be necessary. Stand alone BMP designs shall be capable of capturing and treating the required water quality volume, removing required 80% of total suspended solids and having an acceptable longevity rate in the field.
