As a result of yesterday’s power outage at MSD’s Bissell Point Wastewater Treatment Plant, final calculations show 2.1 million gallons of untreated wastewater discharged in the Mississippi River. This number will be reflected in MSD’s final report to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. As of yesterday afternoon, normal operations have resumed at the Bissell Point facility.
MSD works diligently to protect against all discharges of untreated wastewater into area waterways. While a discharge is not acceptable by any standard, there was minimal risk to human health and safety, and to the environment, from this incident.
More information on the power failure can be found in yesterday’s blog post here.
