The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District Earns Top Awards from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies

The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District (MSD) has been selected to receive seven Peak Performance Awards. The Peak Performance Awards program, presented by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), recognizes public wastewater treatment facilities for their outstanding compliance records in the 2013 calendar year. NACWA was proud to recognize 450 Peak Performance Award facilities during the Association’s 2014 Summer Conference and 44th Annual Meeting, held July 13-16, 2014 in Portland, Oregon.

MSD received Platinum Peak Performance Awards for both Fenton and Lower Meramec wastewater treatment plants recognizing six years of consecutive 100% compliance. Bissell Point and Grand Glaize treatment plants received Gold Awards for achieving 100% compliance with their National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit, granted by the Missouri Department of Natural Resource (MDNR), for an entire calendar year. The Silver Award, for facilities that have received no more than five NPDES permit violations per calendar year, was awarded to Coldwater Creek, Lemay, and Missouri River wastewater treatment plants.

“Our staff works hard each and every day to strive for perfection in serving the metro St. Louis region,” noted Brian Hoelscher, executive director of The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District. “It is quite an achievement to be recognized by our peers for excellence in wastewater compliance, especially considering that our plants have all been undergoing wet weather expansions and installation of disinfection facilities during the last 5 years.”

“The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District is an outstanding example of environmental efforts. NACWA is honored to showcase the achievements of the MSD and our nation’s public wastewater utilities through the Peak Performance Awards Program.” Ken Kirk, NACWA’s Executive Director.
